— Healthy Ageing Starts Earlier Than You Think
👋 Welcome
Hello, and thank you for joining me on this journey toward a world where ageing is not feared, but embraced with knowledge, compassion, and intention.
I’m Sílvia, a healthcare professional, RN, PGdip, MSc, and Frailty Trainee ACP dedicated to transforming how we think about ageing and frailty. Through Healthy Ageing Education, I share research-based insights and real-world reflections to empower professionals, educators, students, and communities to promote healthy ageing — long before frailty develops.
Why Healthy Ageing Starts Early
Healthy ageing is not something that begins in retirement; it’s a lifelong process.
What we eat, how we move, sleep, and connect with others in our 30s, 40s, and 50s lays the foundation for resilience and independence later in life.
Frailty does not appear overnight.
Frailty does not appear overnight—it develops slowly, but prevention works.
It develops slowly, through the accumulation of small changes — loss of strength, reduced activity, poor nutrition, social isolation, and unmanaged long-term conditions. The good news is that these changes are preventable and reversible when recognised early.
💡 What We Can Do — Today
Simple, evidence-based actions make a powerful difference:
- Move more: Daily activity builds muscle and balance. Even light movement counts.
- Eat smart: Prioritise protein, hydration, and variety.
- Rest and recover: Good sleep and emotional balance are essential.
- Stay connected: Social engagement protects the mind and body.
- Review health early: Managing chronic conditions proactively prevents decline.
As professionals and educators, we have the opportunity — and responsibility — to build awareness in every conversation, lecture, and assessment.
